Proposal
The trees in our garden are regularly inspected every 12-24 months by a qualified arborist. In the latest report (attached), it is noted that the English Oak tree (TPO: 130617) identified as T1:"A bracket of Ganoderma applanatum is present at the base of the trunk and the crown shows significant thinning compared with the previous survey; to mitigate loading on the decayed base and prolong the tree?s retention, I recommend a 4-5 m crown reduction to reduce weight and encourage veteranisation of this mature specimen."In addition to the arborist?s observations, we have noticed in recent years that the tree is leaning towards the road and is visibly deteriorating. Its leaf growth during the summer months has been inconsistent, and although we have regularly maintained it by removing deadwood; some branches and limbs have fallen, causing damage to neighbouring vehicles. For these reasons, we are applying to reduce the tree to approximately 7 meters in height and bring in the lateral branches to around 3 meters from the main trunk. This work will:Reduce weight and stress on the base, mitigating the risk associated with the decay.Help prolong the life expectancy of the tree by supporting structural stability.Maintain habitats for local wildlife.Avoid disturbing the roots or soil, preserving natural water absorption and tree health. We wish for the tree to remain in a safe and healthy form as part of the garden's landscape, while protecting property, road users, and neighbouring properties.
