I am applying to have 2 bay trees removed/felled from my garden. They are not under a TPO. One is located at the back of the garden and is extremely tall and growing out of control. It's throwing up new trees from its roots and is getting the to the point that it is going to take over my garden and the garden next door (through the stone wall!). This particular Bay Tree blocks all the light into my poor neighbour's garden and she is in complete darkness by 4pm. We have just moved into the house and I have spoken to her about my plans to apply for permission to remove the bay trees and she is over the moon. The tree is also blocking light to my garden and a number of trees around it are either failing to thrive or dying. She has an old climbing rose and honeysuckle that have died because of the bay tree. There is an older beautiful flowering pear in my garden directly beside the Bay Tree that is stunted and failing to grow because of its light being blocked. By removing the bay tree, both my garden and neighbour's garden will thrive immensely. We are keen gardeners and our gardens and houses are being blighted by both bay trees. Cutting them back will not solve the light issue as the root system is out of control. It will be extremely costly to maintain and I think the actual garden is being comprised and nothing else can grow in it at the moment. Felling these two trees is really my only option to bring the garden back to its former glory - ideally with many flowering plants and a small vegetable garden. Nothing will grow in my garden because of the larger bay and the smaller second bay is comprising the light into the house and the walled garden that could be lovely. The second bay tree is located close to the house on an old garden wall but again it's throwing up roots and blocking the view to the garden from the house.
