This variation is necessary to ensure that the schools are able to maintain an appropriate internal environment and operate their heating systems in a manner that is both energy-efficient and consistent with wider decarbonisation objectives. Maintaining a minimum internal temperature of 15°C is essential to provide frost protection for the buildings and associated services. Allowing the ASHPs to operate for an extended period will significantly reduce the amount of energy required to bring internal spaces up to the required occupancy temperature at the start of the school day, thereby supporting the efficient operation of the heating system.
