Proposal

Under TPO 1243, both Lime Trees T1 & T2 have both recently been inspected by Technical Arboriculutre, a professional expert on tree health. Sadly T1 has been found to have present fruiting bodies of a decaying fungus Kretzschmaria Deusta, along with degradation of a significant buttress root on the north side (B2150 & Dwelling side). Due to the fungus found and condition of the root buttress, we have been advised to fell the tree completely due to the imminent and unpredictable complete tree failure. This should be done at as soon as possible. We were advised a 5 days notice would be sufficient on this occasion due to the risks associated, but this has been declined and a reduction of the sail by 2 meters past previous cut points only approved. We are very disappointed to have fell this tree, but due to the liabilities associated with the report highlighting the health of great Lime tree at the entrance to The Maltings, OBL (the management committee for The Maltings) must follow the professional advise we have receieved. With regard to replacing the tree, OBL would be delighted to work with Winchester's Tree department to plant a tree which meets Winchester requirements. This might be a single lime tree in replacement, should Winchester feel this is the correct replacement.
