Cypress sp x 2 (T3 & T4 in report) fell. The garage is to be replaced and slightly resited. The removal of these trees is necessary for the new building to be carried out without impacting on the root protection areas of trees in the neighbouring garden at Shandy Hall. The two trees are poor specimens of low amenity value. The owners are looking to carry out further tree planting throughout the garden, so they will be replaced by more suitable specimens. Beech (T11 in report) This tree has lost a large and significant limb, leaving a large wound on the main stem. It may be suffering from some type of fungal disease, although this is still in the early stages of progression. The owners are very keen to retain the tree for as long as possible due to its high amenity and landscape value. I recommend that the canopy is given a light reduction and for bracing to be installed to lower the risk of further branch failure. The canopy should be made more narrow, especially the extending limbs to the north side of the tree, so a reduction to these branches should be in the region of 4 -5 metres. This will reduce the load on these branches and hopefully allow the tree to be retained for longer in a safe manner.
