REAR: ONE Lime (T1)(ht.18-20m) FELL to standing stem approx.ht.5m. Reason: tree trunk is hollow from branch fork at approx.7m downwards into base, see photographs, less than one third holding wood within decayed base measured through the vertical basal slit, tree is leaning, a health and safety hazard beside Breakspears Mews, could come down in high winds any time, stem to be left standing for wildlife habitat and biodiversity.Informative A: the landowner has a duty to plant another tree of an appropriate size and species when a tree is removed in a conservation area because it is dead or presents an immediate risk of serious harm. Ref. Tree Preservation Orders and trees in conservation areas, guidance, para 121 - replacement species selected from: small leaved lime, sessile oak, hornbeam, black poplar, wild service tree. Informative B: reducing the tree to a high safe standing stem is greatly appreciated for wildlife habitat and biodiversity. Informative C: please create habitat log piles with arisings for wildlife and biodiversity. Informative D: huge thank you for retaining other trees for amenity, wildlife and shade to reduce increasingly high summer temperatures due to climate change. Informative E: The Bat Conservation Trust advises checking thoroughly for roosting bats before and during tree works with soft fell process followed to proceed with care and with cut timber left grounded over night to allow any bats to make their way out, tree works ideally during Sept/Oct to avoid maternity and hibernation seasons when bats are most vulnerable to disturbance.
