Proposal
1 snapped limb on a willow tree on the bank on the river Aire. The branch was dangerously overhanging the River Aire and over the rowing course and may have fallen completely if a rower had rowed into it.It is located approximately 150m above the weir at Hirst Mill. Huddersfield Arborist, James, ) has removed the snapped limb and cut it to a suitable growth point. This work has already been completed due to the dangerous state of the limb. The weight and balance of the tree has been affected. One limb overhangs the river bank and the other over hangs the river. The limb overhanging the river also has a split in it but this has not caused any further damage yet. The arborist suggests that the 2 remaining limbs should be cut back to suitable growing points to retain the balance of the willow and help reduce the chance of these limbs snapping in the future. This work has not been carried out.
