Proposal

I am writing to seek permission to trim some branches of a tree located in a conservation area. The tree in question is identified as No. 1 in the attached sketch, situated in the bottom left corner. Although identifying the tree has been challenging due to the absence of leaves, I believe it to be an elm tree based on its bark and split trunk.I propose to remove the highlighted branches (see attached image "highlighted branches.jpg"). This process will involve safely cutting back the branches from the tips towards the trunk, leaving a few inches protruding from the trunk. I plan to undertake this work during the winter months to ensure safety and ease, as the tree currently has no leaves.The tree is healthy and growing well, and I do not anticipate any adverse effects from the removal of these branches.The primary reason for this request is that the tree is adjacent to a neighbor's wall, which is currently undergoing renovation due to collapse. The outwardly growing branches on the right-hand side pose a risk of further damage to the newly repaired wall, as they add weight and may pull the tree given its shallow root bed. Both my neighbor and I value the tree for the privacy and aesthetic appeal it provides and do not wish to remove it entirely.The tree is located on private land and does not overhang or cover any public roads or properties. The removed branches will be repurposed within the garden where possible (e.g., for defining borders) or safely disposed of.I have included additional photos showing the branches in question, the shallow root bed, the tree's location relative to the neighbor's wall, and the overall site.Thank you for your consideration.
