The cypress is a large mature tree growing within the main school playground and has recently dropped a large limb onto the playground creating a hole in the canopy where more limbs are now likely to fail due to the change in wind stress dynamics. The tree has been regularly shedding smaller branches over the previous 2-3 growing seasons likely due in part to the mature life stage. Extensive discussions between the school, Assured Trees and Greenman Environmental Management, have identified that there are no pruning works that will feasibly mitigate the risk of further branch failure onto the playground impacting pupils, therefore the school has reluctantly made the difficult decision to remove the tree and to replant.
